We have worked with our designer Jim making Horse Hair pottery for many years and have continued to enhance the technique over time creating a beautiful line of pottery. Horse Hair Pottery was originally created by Native Americans who used the hair from their horses mane and tail to honor and commemorate their horse through decorative pottery. Our pottery pieces are hand thrown with stoneware clay. They are then fired in a kiln and while it is still very hot the Horse Hair is delicately placed on the piece. The Horse Hair burns when it touches the pot leaving a carbon stain and smoke pattern burnt into it. Each piece will always be a unique, one of a kind piece with wandering intricate lines, and a smoke pattern look to it. The White Horse Hair pottery has a raw but smooth fired clay feel to it, while the Brown Horse Hair has a slightly smoother feel and a light brown sheen. Each piece is signed by Jim and made in Arizona USA. This pottery is for decorative use only and the coloring will always be unique to each piece. This pottery is an eye catching piece of art that displays well on any surface. More general information below.
Horsehair pottery can be cleaned with water. Let the moisture in the clay dry thoroughly before placing it back on a shelf or table. For website sales, we keep an inventory of the horsehair pottery in stock and can generally ship within 2 to 5 business days. For retail orders, feel free to have your buyer give us a call. (480) 983-1948 The sizes generally vary within 1/2 inch and can be up to 1 inch proportionately.
